Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on
disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems and the effects of these
disorders on general health. Doctors of Chiropractic, often referred to as
chiropractors or chiropractic physicians, practice a hands-on approach to health
care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors
are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well
as to provide nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle counseling.
The most common therapeutic procedures performed by
doctors of chiropractic are known as spinal and extraspinal adjustments,
joint manipulation, or mobilization to joints and related soft tissues
(muscles, tendons, ligaments). The purpose of specific manipulation
techniques is to help promote proper joint motion and alignment in the spine
and extremities (shoulder, elbow, etc.) and to support proper nerve function
throughout the body. Manipulation or adjustment of the affected joints and
related soft tissues helps to restore mobility and increase proper nerve
function, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tension and promoting healing.
Chiropractic Physical & Complementary Therapies
These are various techniques and modalities used at Lotus Healing Arts to
help:
- Reduce pain, spasm, and inflammation in nerves, muscles, and joints
- Promote blood and lymphatic fluid flows, increase circulation to promote
healing
- Relax tight, constricted muscles and tendons; and support healing
processes
Spinal Decompression Therapy A modern treatment technology
providing help for spinal joint and disc-related (neck, lower back) problems.
• herniated or bulging discs
• spinal stenosis
• lower back and leg pain
• neck pain & stiffness (with or without pinched nerves)
Ultrasound Uses high frequency sound waves to aid the healing
process in areas of injury. Its effects are to generate deep tissue heat,
enhance local circulation, and to enhance the body's natural healing abilities.
Diathermy/Magnatherm This modality is used to create heat in
the deep tissues. Diathermy aids healing by increasing blood and lymphatic
flow and thus circulation to the affected areas, relaxing muscles, and
reducing pain.
Laser Therapy Low level or cold lasers utilize beams of light
at specific frequencies that penetrate into the skin and deeper tissues.
Designed to help restore abnormal cellular function, reduce pain and
inflammation, increase circulation and tissue healing.
Electrotherapy - Interferential A comforting level of
electrical impulses creates a therapeutic treatment/modality to aid in: pain
relief, reduced swelling and muscular spasm, promotion of soft tissue
healing.
Electrotherapy - Microcurrent Injury to the body disrupts its
normal electrical activity; this type of therapy reduces mild electrical
signals like those naturally occurring when the body is repairing damaged
tissue. Helps to speed the healing process and reduce pain and inflammation.
Percussor This vibratory modality is used to free up muscular
spasms, fascial and joint restrictions by utilizing gentle mechanical waves
of energy on various areas of the body.
Therapeutic Exercise, Neuromuscular Re-Education Attended
instruction to injured/dysfunctional areas to include: therapeutic
stretches, joint stabilization exercises (resistance tubing, Swiss ball,
etc.), gait and postural re-education.
Infra-Red Heat Therapy Provides heat to affected areas to help
promote circulation, relax tight muscles, and is helpful adjunct to hands on
treatment and acupuncture therapies.
